Punch cards were the first form of digital data storage. It used a long roll of paper with holes punched into it that you would insert into a computer but since it was just a roll of paper there was no way to stop piracy which turned into an issue.

Altair is the first personal computer, It is also the first thing that kickstarted Microsoft into what it is today. Microsoft made some software called Altair basic and all seemed well, however a computer hobbyist bought this, put it into a high speed paper punching machine and made tons of copies and gave it to his friends, this annoyed bill gates so much back in the day he wrote the famous "Open letter to hobbyists".
